It’s been a while since I told y’all about my last adventure, but I’ve been really busy with puppy stuff - you know, biting and chewing on everything I can get my teeth around, learning new commands to ignore, and playing with my new pack. I’ll just say, they’re a real pill.
Beau is the ultimate Alpha male. Pops says he’s an old curmudgeon, whatever that means. He’s old and grumpy and just growls at me when I try to play with him. He scares me.
Elli is old too, but she never had puppies, so I guess I qualified. Anyway, she lets me climb all over her and bite and chew on her ears. Sometimes, when she needs a break, she’ll let me know with a quick growl or a gentle snap.
And then there is Polly. Polly was adopted like me, but she was older. When I came to live here, she and I were the same size. I was only eight weeks old and weighed 13.2lbs. But now, just seven weeks later, I weigh 27.5lbs and am twice her size.
I’m sure she wonders what happened (actually, I do too), but it hasn’t stopped her from rough-housing with me. It’s been a lot of fun, but sometimes, things get a little out of hand and my humans put me in the time-out crate.
I’ve done some cool stuff in these short seven weeks with my new pack. My humans, Pops and G’Mama took just me on a road trip to a place they said was Mississippi (I had to get them to spell that out for me), wherever that is, to see my cousin, Moose, and his humans. Moose is a cat of all things. I don’t know about this - I’m not sure he’s a real cousin. He doesn’t even look like me. And he has no pack. He’s a loner - likes to hang out on top of the fridge and just stare at what’s going on. Strange dude.
Pops walked me out to the beach while we were there. It was pretty, but I was scared to death of the waves. And I saw these big birds just standing and sitting out on the rocks and poles. I think they must have been looking for food. Anyway, they were really weird and I didn’t like the way they were looking at me.

It was a long trip, so we stopped at this place called Buc-ee’s. It was the coolest place I’d ever been in my short life. They had this huge park area just for dogs where I could take my humans on a walk when I had to, well you know. Then Pops went inside and came back out with the biggest sandwiches I have ever seen. They smelled really good, but since I’m still a puppy, they said I couldn’t have any of it. I’m a little disappointed in them.
Tomorrow, the whole pack gets to go on another road trip. This one is to a place my humans call Edisto. They sure do pick places with funny names. Anyway, it should be fun. Hopefully, I won’t be as scared of the water this time. I’ll let you know how it goes.
That’s all for now. Thanks for reading my stories on Willow Tales: The Adventures of a Carolina Dog.
