Fun in Art Class - 1980

The Story

In 1980 and 81, I lived in Eugene, Oregon, and attended Lane Community College. After six-plus years in the Navy, I ditched the structured military life for, shall we say, a more laid-back lifestyle.

Besides writing, I had always wanted to try my hand at art. This particular drawing was in response to a prompt the instructor handed to me.

Draw your vision of a Duck-tailed, Tri-horned Sapsucker

I remember thinking, “How on earth would I draw that?” Then it just came to me and the piece flowed.

This was a lot of fun to draw.
