June 15, 1981
That day, everything changed.
EVERYTHING.
I remember it as if it was yesterday.
June, 1981. A very hot June.
A four-day bus ride from Bend, Oregon, to Charleston, South Carolina. Four long days. After almost a decade of wandering the world, I was finally going home.
The bus reeked of sweat and body odor. The overworked air conditioning system was a joke. Except for brief stops along the way and a couple of bus exchanges in Chicago and Knoxville, we were captive twenty-four hours a day.
A redeeming factor, in more ways than one it turned out, was that two days into the journey, I was able to stay over a night in Omaha, Nebraska and catch another bus the following morning. I found an inexpensive hotel near the bus station where I could shower and sleep in an actual bed.
That day was June 15, 1981
I had plenty of time to reflect on how I had gotten to this point in my life.

Drove for 4 days from Southern Calif. to the mid west. You brought back memories from over 20 years ago even though we travelled differently. However, I am still not certain that this is where God intended me to land for all of my years.
